My practice explores the relationship between nature and history, using photography and cyanotype to create monotone botanical images. I am particularly interested in toning techniques using organic materials and the earth from beneath the botanicals.
Cyanotype is central to my practice because of its distinctive blue tones and its combination of history and science. Working with light-sensitive materials, I create images that sit somewhere between photography, drawing and printmaking. The process is deliberately tactile and experimental, allowing the qualities of the materials and the changing light to become part of the work.
My interest in nature is rooted in the landscapes and environments around me, particularly the countryside of Cumbria and Lancashire. I use collected and photographed natural forms to create work that encourages the viewer to pause and look more closely at the world around them.
Following my MA in Fine Art at UAL, I have continued to develop a practice that embraces both traditional photographic processes and contemporary approaches to making. Through my work, I aim to celebrate the beauty of overlooked details and create moments of stillness, reflection and connection.
