Quickbeam
Quickbeam are four Cumbrian hedge-witches performing acapella folk and original songs with striking vocals.
Quickbeam, whose name harks back to the Old English term for the Rowan tree, is made up of four talented vocalists and musicians from Cumbria: Abigail Driver, Alison Scott, Arwen Heaton and Jessie McMeekin. Their repertoire features a blend of new arrangements of traditional and contemporary folk songs, as well as inventive original pieces, drawing inspiration from blues, gospel, folk and classical genres. Audiences are captivated by their haunting harmonies, powerful new compositions and uplifting anthems, all delivered with quirky humour and an authentic, approachable style.
In 2025 we performed at Cumberlandia music festival, Hesket New Market Music festival, Folk in the Forest, and had a sell out performance of our show, Needfire, at the Kirkgate Theatre Cockermouth.
Need Fire
Four women singing in close harmony take you on a journey through the cycle of the seasons, exploring human traditions of gathering, with storytelling, folksongs, clogdancing and startling original compositions.
Need Fire was an old Cumbrian way of marking the seasons' cycle: Every homestead in a valley would be plunged into dark, then a single fire kindled, taken house to house, bonding communities, and healing disease.
