Maria began a most ambitious journey in 2014 - she set herself on a mission to become a professional artist, a painter. Her new found study of art under top class tutors alongside a wonderfully intense experience with the Glasgow School of Art and, in 2017, the Norfolk Painting School, has resulted in her becoming fascinated by the physicality and psychology of painting, of mark making.
"There is immense pleasure in wielding a brush touched with paint and in making marks to describe something. Even more, making marks that alone mean little but together, can be read by a stranger as familiar, emotional, dramatic and even, a little uncertain. I remain amazed by the translation that happens between painter and observer and feel it to be a privilege when someone connects with the canvas and is moved to own a piece of work."
