Gillian Whitehouse

Gillian Whitehouse

I live on the edge of the Solway Firth, I attempt to bring a bit of passion, atmosphere and drama to my work, finding inspiration everywhere, from the Solway marshes and spectacular UK coastline to the fells, moors, and mountains of my beloved Cumbria.

I class myself as an abstract impressionist who is currently painting landscape, working mostly in oils but also in acrylic, watercolour and pastel.

I trained as a Fine Artist and subsequently taught Art and Design at the Penrith Queen Elizabeth Grammar School.

I rarely paint exactly what I see, however I use real landscapes as my starting point and main source of inspiration. Painting for me is all about contrast, perspective and lines of force.

This obsession for strong lines and contrasts stems from my immersion in this emotive landscape coupled with the influence of my father John Rogers a former well-known Lake Artist.

I work in my studio and gallery on the edge of the estuary, near Bowness on Solway. You are most welcome to visit at anytime when you are passing, but please contact me in advance.
