Thread painting and textile art.
I enjoy experimenting with textiles, paints and threads. Free motion embroidery, also known as needle painting and thread painting, is a technique, that creates stitches with a sewing machine that resembles paint strokes.
I work with many different fabrics, but Habotai silk with it's smooth texture, strength, yet fine weave has to be my favourite. I enjoy marbleing on fabrics and I find applying paint a slow, relaxing, measured process that creates a beautiful soft background. In contrast to painting, free motion embroidery is a much livelier process. I move my fabric around, painting with many coloured threads giving beautiful detail, texture and depth to my work.
