I have published the first handwritten and illustrated guides to the Lake District since Wainwright completed his unsurpassable series in 1966. Wainwright showed you how to navigate the Lakeland fells, my guides identify where the best views are, be it on the summit, on a cliff edge, looking into a pure beck, or on a lakeside path. The first book covers Ullswater, Haweswater and Brothers Water and was published in 2021; the second features Windermere, Grasmere, The Langdales, Coniston and Kentmere and was published in 2024. I am working on Book Three now which I hope to publish in 2027. I aim to complete the series in 2030. The making of the books is a joy, the research, exploring new paths and places in the most beautiful nine hundred square miles on earth, and the completely absorbing and challenging process of drawing the views and scenes and then writing (by hand, no rubbers, no computers) about my experiences, and in some cases distilling these into poetry. A happy bi-product of the process is the boost to my well being by being amongst nature, and then being completely immersed in the making of the books, patiently, page by page.
