Victoria Knipe — V.K Oils
My work is deeply rooted in personal experience, with a recurring focus on the female gaze. The women I paint are not idealized or softened to fit conventional ideas of femininity. Instead, they confront the viewer with strength, directness, and an unapologetic presence.
I approach painting as a therapeutic and intuitive process rather than following a fixed plan. In the solitude of my studio, I allow each piece to unfold naturally, guided by instinct and emotion. This improvisational practice means that my paintings often pass through many stages and transformations before reaching their final form.
I work primarily in acrylics on wooden panels or canvas, which give me the freedom to explore texture, depth, and bold use of color. These materials allow me to experiment, layering and reworking until the figure fully embodies the intensity I seek to capture.
Through this process, I aim to create work that is both personal and confrontational—portraits of women who are strong, direct, and undeniably present.
