Mark Griffiths and the Word
Mark is an artist, writer, singer-songwriter and retired therapist, living in the Eden Valley.
He has been performing his own songs and poetry in venues across the UK for over forty years and his music is largely acoustic-based, drawing on his love of a diverse range of idioms and often includes rambling monologues and conversations with the audience.
His most recent book ‘GRID - an outside-inside journey through Cumbria’ (published by Caldew Press) was based on his show of the same name, first performed at Carlisle Fringe Festival.
It gathers together songs, poems, anecdote and art written at specific grid references across Cumbria and the north-west and was shortlisted for the 2022 Lakeland Book of the Year award. It was also runner-up for the Wordsworth-Grasmere Prize for Literature.
