My first memory of artistic influence is from my Mum. She was the first person to teach me how to use watercolours. I studied art at school and have painted and sketched on and off since but after starting uni, then full time work and owning a house there hasn’t been much time. The outdoors has always been a source of escapism, therapeutic time and joy, whether it be surfing, camping, climbing or walking. It's also been my work, I am a qualified Forest School leader and I've spent a lot of time building young peoples connection to nature.
Since the pandemic and lockdown began I had to find other ways to be outdoors and discovered my love of bird watching. I remember the first bird that got me hooked, a nuthatch! Since then I’ve learnt to identify most of the birds that visit my garden. Quite often I’ll bring my camera with me on a walk or into the garden and I use my photography as reference photos for my artwork.
My artwork is available on my Moo Drew Art Etsy shop in the form of recycled and plantable cards, amongst other things, come and have a look!
