Kim Tillyer

Kim works in a variety of media but specialises in the use of the cyanotype process. Informed by her degree in Textiles and Surface Design, Kim explores a striking but easily accessible, historical print technique that can be applied both to paper and fabric.

Each print is unique, using rare Cumbrian sunlight and found natural forms, together with hand drawn and photographic elements to create ethereal, illustrative images in shades of blue and white. Works often include intricate hand embroidered details to add colour, texture and a focus on interpretations of “stitch” - to create, mend, secure and embellish Kim’s studio space is in Braithwaite, near Keswick, where she teaches regular workshops and welcomes visitors by appointment. Her work has been featured on BBC Countryfile and she is currently working on a book commission for Search Press about the cyanotype process.
