Jill Dawson
The one love in my life, (apart from my family!), has been the simple pencil. My earliest memories of birthday presents are of receiving packs of Cumberland pencils - I love a pencil in my hand and it must be sharp!
I have been lucky to have led a creative life, from drawing as a child to studying as a teenager to teaching and exhibiting as an adult.
Spending four years studying design and stitched textiles was fascinating and I loved experimenting with 3D art, construction, felt making, free machining, dyeing threads and fabrics with natural plant dyes, and silk paper making. Throughout the lockdowns I concentrated on botanical and wildlife art.
However, returning home to this landscape a few years ago brought true contentment and I am now concentrating on drawing and painting. I am loving spending time trying to capture the wild coasts, the rugged fells, and the ancient rocks that are scattered across the land.
