Jewellery by Emma Scott

It all started with a sea serpent, a wrought iron sea serpent to be exact. All I ever wanted to do was be a blacksmith, and as a teenager I got the opportunity to go and spend a day in a traditional forge. I am 5'1" (and a half!) and spent an enjoyable day half roasted to death, bruised, blistered and bleeding a bit and at one stage almost flung across the floor by the huge air hammer. With a lot of help I made a sea serpent but decided that maybe I was not about that life...

I taught myself smithing, enamelling, forging, setting, lapidary and eventually quit my job to make pretty things! I am self taught and work for myself, from my marvellous little shed at home in North Cumbria.
