Steve and Louise Hughes work as Deepdale Design. We create beautiful handmade products in the finest materials. From highly figured timber used in the innovative eco friendly Artist Pencil, to some of the most beautiful woven wool offcuts for our rug making. We also design and make to commission.
Steve’s passion is design and with over thirty-five years as a professional design consultant, is happy to express his creativity in both 2D and 3D work.
“Art and making have gone hand in hand with design throughout my career. For me creativity is key and variety the spice, be it pencil or paint, wood turning or leather work, I go wherever inspiration takes me”.
The Artist Pencil range is his latest creation, reinventing this fundamental ‘mark maker’ into a delightful, ergonomic, eco friendly, creative companion. He uses them exclusively in his design, art and illustration work.
All of Louise’s work is hand made, primarily using wool and leather. From needle felting the ‘characters of Cumbria’, to rug making using heritage craft skills on a traditional peg loom.
Louise’s work always brings a smile and a huge metaphorical hug.
