Aileen grew up on the edge of the North York Moors, and spent a lot of her childhood out walking in the local area. Along with family holidays in the highlands of Scotland, this led to a love of being outdoors in all weathers and inspired an interest in trying to capture the scenery and mood of the mountains and lochs.
“I love to be out on the hills, walking and climbing. The changing light and moods in the wild places inspires me to try and capture the feeling of the place and a sense of freedom. I love working in watercolour as the way the paint mixes on the paper allows me to be expressive and free, like the feeling I get wandering in the mountains.”
